Oil Portrait

This is an oil portrait on canvas from my Painting III course at Pratt. We were tasked with creating a portrait of someone we knew personally whose image was mediated in some way. I made this portrait of my friend, Kate, using the golden arched frame as medium to view her through. The trompe l'oeil effect of the ribbons as they escape the interior space casts shadows on the pink background, which was inspired by several medieval illuminated manuscripts.
